MEMBERSHIP

Membership will be open to all agents or and operators resident in East African countries who shall be eligible for membership and who shall be elected in the manner hereinafter referred to.

New members shall apply in writing to the Executive Committee for membership and they must be limited liability companies or partnership or wholly owned, duly registered, provided they have place of business in Kenya.

Candidates for KSAA membership shall file written application with the secretariat. Such application shall include the following: -

  • 1 an opening paragraph wherein the candidate applying for membership, states that he has read and understood the Constitution, the by-laws and the Code of Conduct of KSAA and specifically agrees, if admitted to membership, to comply with them.
  • 2 as accorded to status the candidate’s application shall provide the following: -
    • i. Full styled address
    • ii. Certificate of incorporation – copy
    • iii. Valid Trade License
    • iv. Provide qualification of the senior staff manning the office.
    • v. Provide name/s of the principals/operators, trade routes and any other details pertinent to the trade.
    • vi. Name of bankers.
    • vii. Letter from owners/operators confirming the appointment and the intended route and service frequency.

Any application for membership shall be submitted to the Secretariat. The Executive Committee shall examine the application. It will determine the category of membership, if any is approved and, if approved all members will be promptly informed. In the event of disapproval KSAA shall not be required to give reasons for it. However, approval for membership shall not be unnecessarily withheld.

Honorary membership may be awarded to individuals who have made a special and significant contribution to KSAA and the shipping industry in general.

Associate Membership of KSAA may be conferred on any ship-broking or ship agency, entity or association or organisation as the Executive Committee shall agree.

Associate Members shall be entitled to attend all meetings open to members, with participation status but without voting rights.
